Orphanage Assistant
Christ For the City Tijuana Director Eduardo Mendez began his work with street kids in 1988 when he and his wife Ana felt God placing the homeless children of Tijuana on their hearts. Today Eduardo and his staff operate two orphanages, one for teenaged boys and another for young boys and girls of all ages. What started out as a small home with about twenty children has grown into two buildings and hundreds of children rescued from homelessness on the streets or abusive families.
If you feel God leading you to serve children who have been abandoned and abused, serving with Eduardo in his orphanages may be the opportunity you’ve been looking for. Come live near the orphanage and spend your days ministering to the kids, sharing Jesus with them, and assisting the permanent orphanage staff in feeding and taking care of the children. Serve with us in Tijuana and let the children at our orphanage steal your heart!
Administration and Communications Assistant
Running two orphanages with over 100 kids to feed, clothe, transport, and play with is a busy and hectic undertaking. The CFCI staff in Tijuana are doing just that. These native Mexicans are pouring their lives into caring for kids rescued from lives of abuse at home or lives of drugs, alcohol, and prostitution on the streets of Tijuana. The staff also regularly hosts North American mission teams that come to spend time with the kids, teach them God’s Word, and make repairs to the facilities.
If you are gifted administratively, you can bless our missionary staff and the kids they serve by helping to facilitate communication between the Spanish speaking staff and English speaking mission trip leaders. In addition to helping with the preparation, communication, and logistics of mission teams, you would be an invaluable resource for our staff in day to day administrative matters. It’s a busy job, but with a servant’s heart, you can make a huge difference in the lives of our staff and the children
Local Church Outreach
Pastor Cuco Gonzalez has a heart for the people of his city. A Tijuana native, Pastor Cuco does not stay behind his pulpit. He gets out into the community and regularly organizes and participates in neighborhood outreach throughout Tijuana. He and his volunteers have put together Jesus film showings, taken American mission teams into the juvenile detention center to play soccer with youth and helped to organize Tijuana’s 2009 March for Jesus.
Most significantly for Cuco, his ministry, called Operacion Luz, organized several children’s outreach events on Halloween and an outreach event for families dealing with cancer both of which reached tens of thousands of people.
Working with Pastor Cuco and Operacion Luz is a unique opportunity to help mobilize and encourage the people of Tijuana. Come to Tijuana and assist Pastor Cuco in putting together his outreach projects and join him in his vision to reach Tijuana for Jesus.
Mission Team Receiver
Our missionary staff knows that mission teams have a phenomenal effect on the communities they come to serve. Mission teams are able to come alongside local ministries and churches and are used by God to encourage them to reach their vision and continue the work that they are doing. Since the teams have such an impact on the people they serve, our missionaries spend a lot of time working with teams arriving from the U.S. and Canada.
We always have a need for assistant leaders to help our staff lead the mission trip teams. If you have strong Spanish skills and a desire to develop your leadership abilities, come spend a year with us in Tijuana helping our staff in preparing for and receiving teams.
As you lead teams and help with outreach activities, you will have the opportunity to build relationships with the kids who live in CFCI’s orphanage. You will also assist our staff with logistics like arranging transportation and creating an activity schedule for the teams. When the team arrives you will serve as a leader and translator for the them.
Between teams you will be able to serve in the orphanage and assist our missionaries with local church and outreach activities. You will also be welcome to make periodic visits to work with our missionary staff in San Diego, CA in their homeless ministry.
Spending a year or two as a Mission Trip Receiver will bless our missionary staff and be an incredible opportunity for you to see God work in the lives of the team members you serve and the children in our orphanage.
